Easiest way to update the E-P1 is with Olympus Master 2. Not sure if there is any other way for OpenSolaris or Linux users. Simply connect the camera to a mac with the USB cable. At this time, the PEN turn itself on and I select "storage" on the camera. On OM2, Select camera -> update camera/lens. And the rest is pretty much straight forward. To update the 2nd lens, replace the lens on the PEN and start all over again. As in, reconnect your USB cable...

The company has also posted firmware updates for the E-P1’s kit lenses: the M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and the M. Zuiko Digital 17mm 1:2.8 pancake lens. The updates promise to improve the autofocus operation of both the lenses. Firmware updates can be downloaded via the Olympus Master/Studio software.”
