Firefox or Safari
Firefox has been my #1 browser for their add-ons, especially the adblock+, google gears, uquibity, downloadhelper
Safari wins in having click to flash and thats it.
by no means, firefox is any inferior. Adobe flash on apple is just too resource intensive to ignore. Jetpack on FF might help in this area, no time to explore. ClickToFlash not just block flash, it could play videos on quicktime H.264 instead of flash, but only on youtube.com. Embedd youtube vid dun work.
Anyway, run the following command open ._blank in new tag on safari instead a new window.
# defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Laugh and laugh...
till I tear and KL got really worried.
Saw this article on the papers...
Crouching Tiger, hidden hydrant The Sunday Times
Perhaps Tiger should have used a driver
That’s the first time Tiger Woods has failed to drive 300 yards
Tiger Woods drives into a water hazard
After a wayward drive, Tiger Woods found water before nestling behind a tree.
Tiger Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree ... he couldn’t decide between a wood and an iron.
I find it’s a nightmare driving at 2.05am: sometimes you can’t see the Woods for the trees.
Tiger Woods has been dropped by Gillette after admitting that his crash was the closest shave he had ever had
U tell yr wife everything? My wife thinks I’m at the office. I tell her I’m playing golf when I’m with another woman
Apparently, the only person who can beat Tiger Woods with a golf club is Elin.
Tiger’s wife went for him over a birdie.
What was the second worst part of Tiger’s car accident? The police found the driver in the trunk.
Tiger Woods owns several cars; it’s a shame that he got a hole in one

force upgrade (false update) of windows live messenger
MSN live messenger broke for almost a week, cause I see no reasons to upgrade. And I cant use MSN until I install the compulsory upgrade. But, I am fine, I can still use gtalk. Until just now, after getting lots of questions asking where I am. I finally upgrade from I-cant-remember-version to who-really-knows-what-version-now. Took about 10mins and I finally realised what this false upgrade really was. At the end of the installation, I was prompt to set bing (bing is not google) as default search engine and MSN as as default homepage. Trying to shove bing n MSN nonsense into my laptop. Essentially, theres nothing new with the latest live messenger! Nice try MS.
Consolation to that theres nothing new, those disrupting MSN ads are still removable with http://www.google.com/search?q=block+msn+ads

Setup VPN client on Mac
Been trying to get support from my unfriendly network admin to get me cisco vpn client for mac, but to no avail. fortunately, VPN client comes free by default on snow leopard.
Claimed I deleted my profile and tricked the network admin for the .pcf profile file. There is no profile import facility on apple vpn client. Open the .pcf file in vi or any text editor. Get the host, GroupName and enc_GroupPwd. Go to http://www.unix-ag.uni-kl.de/~massar/bin/cisco-decode to decode the long string in enc_GroupPwd, the encrypted (Group) password.
Go to system perference -> network. Click on +, interface - VPN, VPN type - cisco, name it and create.
Fill in accordingly. host for Server Address.

Fill in the shared secret from the decoder and the "Group name" with GroupName.

Test your connectivity. Mine comes with 2FA and it works!

Fo Guang Shan visit
Took a day off to volunteer at Fo Guang Shan where they practice a form of Mahayana tradition, Humanistic Buddhism. It was a grand event where Master Hsing Yun preside the 3 refuges and 5 precepts ceremony. Wasnt able to help much, but enjoyed taking pictures at all the excitement. Only a single request from a nun to helped tightening a score stand. Otherwise enjoyed my tea and reading the booklets while missing out the entire ceremony.

1 week of mac
Nothing much happened so far, tried all the iApps, photo booth, garage band and dashboard. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, then update to MacOS 10.6.1. Some learning curve moving from winXP/GNOME environment to MacOS. Finder and expose is way cool. Multi touch trackpad is easy to pick up and pretty much grown into me. Right click is something I need to get used to, without it. The colours on Safari and Firefox are slightly washout, due to color profiling. Keyboard layout. Last but not least, what are these ctrl, alt, cmd, shift keystrokes about?
So far, installed, firefox, MSN for Mac, Olympus Master 2, OpenOffice Aqua, some temperature widget, mind mapping freeware, openVPN.
Pet peeves - bought a sleeve and keyboard cover promo for $28 @ vivo. As the speaker is under the keyboard, the sound sound slightly muffled to the already mono sound. The sleeve does not fit.

Firmware 1.1 update on the PEN
Easiest way to update the E-P1 is with Olympus Master 2. Not sure if there is any other way for OpenSolaris or Linux users. Simply connect the camera to a mac with the USB cable. At this time, the PEN turn itself on and I select "storage" on the camera. On OM2, Select camera -> update camera/lens. And the rest is pretty much straight forward. To update the 2nd lens, replace the lens on the PEN and start all over again. As in, reconnect your USB cable...
“Olympus has released a firmware update for its E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera. Version 1.1 improves the camera operation in Continuous AF mode (C-AF). The company has also posted firmware updates for the E-P1’s kit lenses: the M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and the M. Zuiko Digital 17mm 1:2.8 pancake lens. The updates promise to improve the autofocus operation of both the lenses. Firmware updates can be downloaded via the Olympus Master/Studio software.”
source: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0909/09091501olyep1firmware.asp
I cant tell the difference. Didnt have time for serious shooting. Anyway, good job! Looking forward for next update.

hello macbook pro...
my Dell inspiron m500 have served me well. Bought it for its size when netbook is not even a word yet. Arrived clean white and silver on jan 05. Have been my trusted workhorse. It traveled to LA n BKK before. Upgraded to a larger HDD last year hoping to last another 2 yrs. Now with a bad RAM, its going to cost $150+/Gb to replace, which just does not make any sense.
Had a tough time deciding a opensolaris-cum-linux regular notebook or a Macbook. Finally settled on macbook pro 13" for $1.9lk. Cost less than my then dell m500. Compared with other windows laptop of the same price range. Differentiating factor - design, engineering, 1066Mhz front side bus, backlit keyboard, snow leopard (64bit, OpenCL, UI). I have seen Peter Karlsson's macbook running opensolaris. Will set aside sometime to work on this.
At the meantime, my dell will stays with me to be "netbook'd". Need to set aside some time to try out moblin, ubuntu netbook remix and various lightweight opensolaris, MilaX, StormOS or even LXDE on opensolaris. This should be fun...

3 day retreat @ WAY
Took leave for 3 days of intensive training for the mind. Tough, yet peaceful. Learned alot, but there are much more to learn. Sneaked out 2nd day to CCK for higher learning. Very deep topic on pain and hatred. Easy on third day and found joy in practicality training. Sadhu.

RIP MJ
never a fan of his, but my favorite song from MJ ... "Man in the mirror"
I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change
RIP, you are still a wacko. :p

better to be agreeable...
...than right,
Was watching CSI 'The Descent of Man'. Greg Germann played a comical monk, George, quoted from his religion. From CSI ep. guide
---
And when the naive George asserts that it's "better to be agreeable than right," Brass counters, "that's not religion, that's marriage."

Men who take too much pictures
On the way back to office, we happened to discuss the characteristics of "alpha-male". We deduce an alpha-male is someone who carrys handbag, well groom and take pictures of every food he eat...
and I blurt, "...a zeta-male is one who take a pic of their own crap every morning!"
everyone agrees...
well, 3 of us wear omegas and I dont have the heart to tell them the last char should be omega. :S

"I"m a great believer in low self esteem. The only people I find that high self esteem are criminals and actors. And if you have low self esteem and you always assume you’re the dumbest person in the room, you’ll work harder," Leno jokes.
"...no matter what happens, whether a bomb goes off or there’s some disaster, no matter what horrible thing goes on, you go out and you do the jokes. And when the times are bad, you do silly jokes. When the times are fun, you can do serious jokes, but you always try to have material because you’re job is to cheer people up at the end of the day," Leno says.

Unable to come with any topic for May and happened to see a email from Jim Grisanzio on Lightning Talk. Hastily, drafted an email notice and hope that at least all will come with a presentation. Brought along some treats from Penang. Didnt expect a Bangladeshi to enjoy a chinese pastry. Expected turnout with unexpected individual. James, the closet member...

The dirty (half)dozen at Sun Microsystems - Solution Center
Finally managed to give out some t-shirts. Lots of discussions. Some are catch ups, some technical, some argument, but somehow, the discussions tend to deviate to Sun sale to Oracle. Try to relinquish my lead role but everyone is supportive of me. Hopefully, the new website based on XWiki will lighten the load on maintaining the website. So far, the preview looks great.

Preface
This could be the beginning of the end. This blog is rebooted at a very strange time in my life. At a time, when a large part of me is happier, so as it was said. I am not who I used to be anymore and I dont know who I am going to be anyway. Why am I so disturbed? you may ask...you would not want to know. It will be too painful for me but too dark for you to handle. This is where I am going to write as a sane person with some sane perspective, just some of it. I may move some of my past entries from the old blog where I deem fit. big G, not any larger than life, but a really insignificant quark.
